A 10-year-old boy was the sole survivor after a crash killed his father and 12-year-old brother in Connecticut, authorities said.
The crash occurred on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 22, in the 600 block of Willis Street in Bristol, the Bristol Police Department shared in a Facebook post.
Authorities said emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a single vehicle carrying three passengers after it hit a tree. Officers began life-saving measures, and fire personnel were needed for extrication.
“Bristol EMS transported all three victims to Bristol Hospital; however, the driver and front-seat passenger were subsequently declared deceased,” police said. “The third, rear-seat passenger was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”
Preliminary findings suggested that “a 2006 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Willis Street,” the department added, “when it left the roadway and collided with a tree on the eastern side of the roadway.”
“We’ve had crashes over the years going up and down the hill,” Richard Moulis, a resident of Willis Street, told CBS affiliate WFSB. “For cars coming down, especially those that don’t know the area, they’re in trouble.”
Police said the deceased were a 35-year-old adult, who drove the car, and his 12-year-old son, who was in the front seat. The driver’s other son, a 10-year-old, was in the backseat and survived.
The three, who were not identified by name, were from Waterbury, and their next of kin was notified.
“The Bristol Police Department and the entire city extend its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” said Bristol Police Chief Mark Morello in the news release. “This tragedy is especially difficult given the young age of the deceased passenger, the upcoming holidays, and our hearts ache.”

“This is a horribly tragic impact to a family,” Bristol Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu stated in the release. “I would like to thank both Police Chief Mark Morello and Fire Chief Rick Hart for being on-hand this afternoon to oversee how this incident unfolded and their departments’ involvement. ”
“I also had a conversation with Bristol EMS leadership to check in with them and with Waterbury Mayor Pernerewski so that he would have the opportunity to ensure appropriate response within his City,” Zoppo-Sassu added.
Authorities said the Bristol Police Department’s Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team will lead the investigation.
