‘Teacher of the Year’ placed on leave after allegedly trying to mow down baby daddy in Walmart parking lot

A former “Teacher of the Year” has been suspended from her job after allegedly trying to mow down her baby’s daddy with her car in a Walmart parking lot.

Sade Delesia Nacheyle Nelson, a 2025 award winner at St. John’s High School in Charleston, South Carolina, allegedly assaulted the father of her child and his girlfriend during an Oct. 18 custody exchange, Live5News reported.

Nelson, 37, allegedly punched her baby daddy and his girlfriend, and witnesses reported that she had attempted to ram him with her car, police said.

The father claimed to police he had opened the passenger door of her car to pick up his son when Nelson began punching him repeatedly — causing him to fall to the ground, according to police records obtained by the Daily Mail.

He said he fell out of the car trying to escape her blows. Security footage obtained by police showed Nelson driving her car directly at the man, according to the report.

She is charged with third-degree assault and battery, domestic violence of a high aggravated nature, unlawfully placing a child at risk of or causing harm or willfully abandoning a child.

Nelson claimed it was her child’s father who had struck her and her son after opening her car door.

She told police she then proceeded to walk to his car so she could photograph the license plate, when he knocked her to the ground.

The footage shows the child’s father leaning into Nelson’s car. Nelson is also seen walking to the baby daddy’s car, and leaning into an open door.

The father of her child then walked over and knocked her to the ground, according to the report.

She allegedly then proceeded to attack the man until bystanders intervened.

Nelson then allegedly fled the scene with her son before police arrived, and said a friend had told her she would speak to the cops on her behalf.

Charleston County School District spokesperson Andy Pruitt confirmed that Nelson had been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

“Because this is a personnel matter and an active investigation, the district cannot provide any additional details at this time,” he said.
