Woman ‘Hurt’ After Husband Wakes Up from Surgery and Looks at Her ‘with Disgust’

NEED TO KNOW

  • A woman was left “hurt” by her husband’s initial reaction after waking up from surgery
  • She revealed on Reddit that he looked at her with “disgust”
  • Now she is unsure how to move forward

A woman turned to Reddit to ask if she was overreacting for being upset about her husband’s initial reaction to her after surgery.

In her post, the woman shared that her husband recently “had a minor, outpatient surgery,” noting that it “wasn’t anything life-threatening or super serious.”

Before he was admitted to the hospital, the couple “joked about seeing videos of husbands coming out of surgery and being so doe-eyed and loving when they see their wives.”

So, she decided to record him as he woke up from anesthesia — but the outcome was not what she was expecting.

At first, he “couldn’t remember” who she was, and then things took yet another heartbreaking turn.

“He asked who I was and when I replied that I’m his wife, his lip curled and had a look of utter disgust on his face. He even said ‘ugh,'” she recalled. “I stopped recording and just sat in silence while he went in and out for a while.”

When they got home, the woman locked herself in the bathroom and cried. She questioned if that is how her husband “really feels,” asking, “Is he disgusted with me? Is he showing his true feelings?”

She shared that she’s now questioning their whole relationship.

“Did he settle for me? I am so hurt at this thought,” she ended. “He asked to see the video today and I lied and said I forgot to record it.”

People in the comments assured her that his reaction is common when coming out of anesthesia and has nothing to do with her.

“For every rainbow and unicorn video, there are 150 moments like this. Anesthesia is absolutely wild and his wake-up response has nothing to do with how much he adores you,” one person commented.

“If he secretly felt that way about you, he wouldn’t have asked you to record because he might be afraid of accidentally revealing that, and he certainly wouldn’t have been anticipating a doe-eyed reaction,” another person wrote. “The look of disgust and ‘ugh’ could have been unrelated to the conversation, maybe even just an icky feeling from the anesthesia that came out at an inopportune time.”
