Wicked-Inspired Dog Name Gets Number 1 Spot on Top Trending Pets Name List

Wicked: For Good arrived in theaters on Nov. 21, but the Wicked franchise has been captivating fans for years, and that obsession has led to a shift in pet names.

Pet-sitting platform Rover recently released its list of the Top Trending Pet Names, and a familiar Wicked nickname tops the list. Elphie, the nickname for Wicked’s Elphaba (played by Cynthia Erivo) in the Wicked films, is the top trending name for female pets, up 244% in popularity since last year. Elphie is also the top trending puppy name overall, according to Rover.

The company gathered the data for its trending findings by referencing its database of over 1 million pets. Rover analyzed the new pets added to its database in 2025, focusing on pets under 2 years old that joined Rover between August 2024 and September 2025. By zeroing in its focus on new, young pets, Rover said it was able to “get a good look at overarching themes to see what inspiration comes from brand new beginnings.”
