Marshall Faulk set to be head coach of Southern University football

Hall of Famer Marshall Faulk is returning to his roots for his first head coaching job.
Faulk is set to take over as head coach at HBCU Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.
This will be his first head coaching job in college football as Faulk returns to his native Louisiana.
Faulk, who is from New Orleans, is getting the head coaching nod after his first season as a coach on the staff of fellow Hall of Famer Deion Sanders at Colorado.
Faulk had been offered college football coaching jobs in the past, but had turned them down before finally accepting a role on Sanders’ staff.
“I’ve been offered jobs,” Faulk had previously told ESPN. “If it wasn’t for Coach Prime, I would not even try this. This wasn’t even on my list of things to do in the least way. I put crazy hours in when I played, like player and coach’s hours in, to become the student of the game that I was. And when I walked away from it, I couldn’t believe how much time I invested into the game.”
Faulk joins a growing list of former NFLers taking over programs in the college ranks.
Michael Vick became head coach at Norfolk State earlier this year.
Faulk spent 12 years in the NFL from 1994 to 2005 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
He was named NFL MVP in 2000, earned NFL Offensive Player of the Year three times and was a seven-time Pro Bowler.
Faulk finished his career with 12,279 rushing yards and 100 touchdowns.
He also had been a college football star at San Diego State, where he was a two-time All-American, and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
Southern University fired head coach Terrence Graves last month following the team’s 1-6 start to the season.
They’ve gone on to put up a 1-10 record and will play their final game of the season against Grambling on Saturday.
Faulk will be the program’s fifth coach since 2020.
Colorado will play its final game on Saturday against at Kansas State.
