Thanksgiving parade viewers gush over Hoda Kotb’s return to TV

Fans are thankful for Hoda Kotb this holiday season.
The former “Today” host delighted viewers when she joined old colleagues Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker for NBC’s live coverage of this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday.
This marked one of Kotb’s first times stepping back on camera since leaving the popular morning show in January to spend more time with her daughters.
“Love that Hoda Kotb still comes back to the parade after leaving today, we need her,” one person wrote on X during the festivities in New York City on Thanksgiving morning.
“Not me jumping up and down at Hoda Kotb hosting the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” another celebrated. “I love Hoda and I’ve missed her sooo much on my tv.”
“Hoda Kotb on my screen again…all is well,” a third person tweeted.
“Good to see Hoda Kotb back with Savannah Guthrie for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade!” gushed a fourth. “Glad NBC brought her back for this special occasion!”
Kotb, 61, teased her special appearance for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade during a chat with NPR on Wednesday.
“It just feels like home,” she told the outlet regarding her return to NBC. “Every year, Macy’s ups the game.”
“There are so many surprises and delights,” the former “Dateline” correspondent added. “What I love so much about [the parade] is there’s comfort in knowing that things don’t always change so drastically.”
She also compared Thanksgiving morning to the “feeling of a warm blanket” and “all those memories that come along” with it.
Kotb left fans devastated when she announced her departure from “Today” in September 2024. By the time she left in January, she was on the program for 17 years and with NBC for 26.
“As I write this, my heart is all over the map,” she said at the time. “I know I’m making the right decision, but it’s a painful one. And you all are the reason why.”
“They say two things can be right at the same time, and I’m feeling that so deeply right now,” she added. “I love you and it’s time for me to leave the show.”
Kotb, whose daughter, Hope, 6, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2023, went on to pay a special tribute to each of her beloved co-hosts.
“Savannah: my rock,” she continued. “Jenna: my ride-or-die. Al: my longest friend at 30 Rock. Craig, Carson, Sheinelle and Dylan: my family. Libby, Mazz and Talia: my fearless leaders. I will miss each and every one of you at TODAY desperately.”
“I’ll be around. How could I not?” Kotb concluded her announcement. “Family is family and you all will always be a part of mine.”
