Year 12 student dies after reportedly falling off roof at high school formal in Brisbane

A Year 12 student has died at a school formal in Queensland.
Emergency services were called to a venue in Brisbane on the evening of Tuesday, November 18, after the student from Wellington Point State High School was found unresponsive, an online memorial website states.
The teenager had died after falling from the roof of one of the buildings at the venue, according to the Daily Mail, and it was reported classmates witnessed the incident.
Police have confirmed the death was sudden and non-suspicious.
The school informed parents of the “distressing event” in a letter, urging them to encourage their children not to post about the incident on social media.
“As you may be aware, a distressing event has deeply impacted our school’s community,” the letter, published by the Daily Mail, read.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the news of the passing of one of our Year 12 students.”
The school offered its sympathies to the student’s family and friends, before asking parents for their “support in monitoring your child’s use of social media over the coming days”.
“While many posts may come from a place of care, comments or speculation online can be deeply distressing for those grieving.”
“We ask that you encourage your child not to share or comment on social media about this incident,” it continued.
“The most respectful way we can support the student’s family and friends is by maintaining their privacy.”
It added that support was available and will be in place for as long as required.
The school has not published a statement on its Facebook page, where photos were uploaded yesterday of Year 12 students at their graduation ceremony.
“Congratulations to all students – you did it! We are so proud of you and your achievements,” the post read.
Queensland Police told news.com.au that a report will be prepared for the coroner into a non-suspicious sudden death.
The Queensland Department of Education said Wellington Point State High School is ensuring students, staff and families have access to a range of support.
“The department extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, students and staff.
“Guidance officers and Youth Support Workers are on site, and additional support has been made available from the region. Students and parents are encouraged to reach out to the school at any time if they feel they need assistance.”
