Lakers getting rid of ‘dangerous’ NBA Cup court

The Lakers are scrapping their alternative NBA Cup court after player complaints.
The league’s court vendor deemed the court unplayable for Friday night’s game against the Mavericks.
The teams will instead play on the franchise’s regular court.
Lakers players ripped the playing surface, which is a special hardwood for the NBA’s in-season tournament, after the team’s 135-118 win over the Clippers at Crypto.com Arena.
“That was bad,” forward Rui Hachimura said on Friday. “I felt it right away when I was warming up. It just felt weird. Just like oily, slippery. Everybody was on the floor, literally.”
Luka Doncic said the conditions were “dangerous.”
“It’s just slippery,” Doncic said. “It’s dangerous … I slipped a lot of times. You could see a lot of players slipped. And that’s dangerous, man.”
Doncic, who didn’t let the court affect his play, dropping 43 points with nine rebounds and 13 assists in 38 minutes, said he knew the court would be a problem as early as pre-game warm ups.

Lakers head coach JJ Redick said the court may have had some drying issues after the NHL’s Kings played the Senators the night before.
“Sometimes courts just don’t dry well when there’s condensation on it,” Redick said.
The Lakers are 3-0 in NBA Cup group play and have already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals.
With a win over the Mavericks on Friday, the Lakers, who are 3-0 in NBA Cup group play, will clinch home court in the quarterfinals.
If they do secure another home game, the league is expected to make repairs and use the special hardwood, per ESPN.
