How Many Episodes Are There of ‘Smiling Friends’ Season 3? ‘Smiling Friends’ Season 4 Info

Sunday nights still belong to HBO.

Last night (November 30), fans were treated to new episodes of IT: Welcome To Derry and I Love LA, as well as the season finale of Tim Robinson’s wonderfully twisted comedy The Chair Company. Thankfully, both The Chair Company and I Love LA already earned second-season renewals, and I’m sure the official Welcome To Derry Season 2 announcement is just around the corner.

While I always tend to find my way to HBO on Sunday nights, Adult Swim has slowly become an end-of-the-weekend destination thanks to Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack’s beloved animated series Smiling Friends.

This cult favorite follows the employees of a small company dedicated to bringing happiness to the world. The bite-sized episodes (11-12 minutes) and absurdist humor combine to make Smiling Friends a highly bingable delight.

What does the future hold for this late-night favorite? Will there be a Smiling Friends Season 4? Here’s everything you need to know.

How Many Episodes Are There of Smiling Friends Season 3?

The third season of Smiling Friends consists of eight episodes. The season finale (Season 3, Episode 8: “The Glep Ep”) is now streaming on Adult Swim and HBO Max.

Will There Be a Smiling Friends Season 4?

Yes! In June 2025, it was announced that the series earned a two-season pickup, which means that Smiling Friends will be back for Seasons 4 and 5.

“It means you don’t have to make the same episode that the engine of the show relies on, which is the smiling friends go out and help a depressed character,” co-creator Michael Cusack told The Hollywood Reporter about the pickup. “Just like the shows we love and grew up with, the best part is now we can make a whole episode about a secondary character and zoom in on them more and explore the town.”

What Does The Future Hold For Smiling Friends?

There’s no official news on the show’s future beyond Season 5, but Cusack and co-creator Zach Hadel recently told The Hollywood Reporter that “leaving the audience wanting more is the best.”

“We’ll see how we feel after four and five, and then Zach and I will get into the war room and decide what the next plan is,” Cusack said. “We pretty much can guarantee it’s not going to go on as much as these other shows.”

Added Hadel: “Even if we had a thousand ideas at the end of season five, we’re not going to go on long. I will say that much. We’re not going to put a number up, but five is getting close to probably where we’ll want to wrap it up.”

How To Watch Smiling Friends Online:

The first three seasons of Smiling Friends are now available on HBO Max and Adult Swim. HBO Max is having a Cyber Monday deal — $2.99/month for 12 months — that ends on December 1. You can also add HBO Max to your Prime Video account.
