Byron Buxton an intriguing Mets option — if Twins’ fortunes change his no-trade stance

This is not a great time for the Mets to need a center fielder.

The free agent market is thin enough to inspire Ozempic rumors. Cody Bellinger is the best available, but at 30 he is probably better off in a corner outfield spot or at first base.

Last season’s offensive uptick did not shake Harrison Bader’s glove-first reputation. The next-best available might have been Cedric Mullins before the Mets flop reportedly agreed to a deal with the Rays on Wednesday.

There are reported trade possibilities — the Astros’ Jake Meyers, Red Sox’s Jarren Duran and White Sox’s Luis Robert Jr. among them — which would be expensive particularly because of the dearth of free-agent options.
