A Missouri man is facing charges of first-degree murder, child endangerment and more after he shot and killed the mother of his child — while the three-month-old baby was present.
33-year-old Alan Michael Mellow is accused of shooting and killing Hannah Lee Blizard, 30, with whom he shares a 3-month-old child, according to a statement issued by the Monett Police Department.
Police said that the couple was involved in a “domestic dispute” on Saturday, Dec. 20, in a vehicle parked outside of an apartment complex while their child was inside the car.
“Mellow fired multiple shots at Blizard then returned to his apartment with the child. Mellow later surrendered himself and the child to police without incident. Blizard was pronounced dead at the scene,” officials wrote.
The baby was transported to a local hospital for evaluation by medical personnel, according to the statement.

A probable cause affidavit, filed in Barry County, Mo. and obtained by PEOPLE, alleges that officers were called to the scene after receiving a report that shots had been fired. They discovered a victim on the ground outside a silver car who was “bloody and appeared lifeless,” according to the affidavit.
Additional law enforcement officers were called to the scene, and at one point, police say that Mellow spoke with a highway patrol officer over the phone who tried to “convince the suspect to surrender and turn the infant over to police.”
At one point, he allegedly told officers, “My son will grow up without a dad,” per the affidavit.
Later on, after Mellow was taken into custody, police say that he told investigators that the victim “had a severe alcohol addiction that he was trying to help her with,” and that they “were arguing about her alcohol use and the fact she had stolen coins from his coin collection, which he believed she used to purchase alcohol.”
Mellow then told investigators that Blizard told him that she had called her mother and planned to leave with their child, according to the affidavit.

“Mellow said he would not allow that and decided to leave himself with the child,” the affidavit states.
Mellow then allegedly told police he took the baby into the car and Blizard followed them, per the affidavit. When she got inside the car, Mellow said he reached for his handgun and shot her “a couple of times” in the head. He then said he took the baby and went back inside.
