1 Killed, Several Others Injured After Suspected Drunk Driver Plows into Ariz. Christmas Parade Crowd

A suspected drunk driver drove into bystanders gathered for a Christmas parade in Kayenta, Ariz., killing one person and leaving others injured just before the event was set to begin.
Navajo Nation police said the crash happened Monday as spectators waited for the parade to begin, and the driver was arrested after the incident, the Associated Press, AZFamily and The Arizona Republic reported.
Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren addressed the crash in a statement dated Dec. 22, saying “three people were struck by a vehicle,” including “a young person in critical condition and a pregnant woman.”

“My heart is heavy after learning of the tragic incident at the Kayenta Light Parade,” Nygren said in a statement. “This is heartbreaking during a season meant for family, joy, and togetherness, and I urge everyone to take steps to prevent drinking and driving and to look out for one another.”
Authorities have not identified the driver, the outlets reported.
