Baby Dies After Being Found ‘Covered in Blood’ Near His Mom, Who Police Say Had Slashed Wrists

A 15-month-old baby boy died after being found “covered in blood” inside a New York City home on Monday, Dec. 29.
Police officers found the child unconscious and unresponsive inside a house on 157th Street in Jamaica, Queens at about 1:30 p.m. after responding to a report of an assault, an NYPD spokesperson told PEOPLE.
Also in the residence was a 28-year-old woman, who had slash wounds to her wrists, the spokesperson said.
Both of them were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead and the woman was listed in stable condition.
The cause of death has not been determined for the baby, who did not have either stab wounds or blunt force trauma, according to police.
The blood on the boy may have belonged to the woman, who has been identified as the victim’s mother, police said.

New York’s Chief Medical Examiner will formally determine how the baby died.
No arrests had been made in connection with the incident as of 5:30 p.m. Monday.
