Police bodycam footage capturing the moments leading up to Luigi Mangione’s arrest in a Pennsylvania McDonald’s has been released publicly.

The footage, obtained by PEOPLE, shows two Altoona, Pa., police officers enter the McDonald’s and approach a masked Mangione, who was on his laptop while sitting in the back corner of the restaurant next to the bathroom.

The officers ask Mangione, who was wearing a brown beanie and a black coat, to take his mask off and then ask his name.

Mangione pulled the mask down and identified himself as Mark Rosario, the same name found on the fake New Jersey ID he allegedly gave to the officers, which is also seen later in the video.

“Someone called, they thought you were suspicious,” one of the officers tells Mangione.

“Oh, I’m sorry, um—” Mangione responds.

The officers then ask for Mangione’s ID, which one of the officers takes and attempts to verify over his radio before the video cuts off.

The officer questioning Mangione seemingly referenced the woman who called the police, and says “she thought you looked like someone” before stopping.

While the other officer went to check the ID, the questioning officer is heard asking where Mangione is from. The rest of their conversation can’t be heard.

Mangione would eventually be arrested at that McDonald’s on suspicion of forgery for handing officers a fake ID.

Later, he was charged in connection with the death five days earlier of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in both New York state and federal court.

Thompson was fatally shot on the street in midtown Manhattan in December 2024 by a masked gunman who fled the scene on a bike.

A high-profile manhunt unfolded over the next few days, ending with the arrest of Mangione, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges he is now facing.

The bodycam footage was released amidst a series of pretrial evidence hearings in Mangione’s state case.

Following his arrest in Pennsylvania, Mangione was extradited to New York, where he is currently incarcerated ahead of trial at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where he awaits trial.

Mangione is charged with murder in federal court, which could carry the death penalty if convicted. In state court, he faces murder charges and was initially charged with terrorism as well, but that charge was later dismissed.
