Fla. Woman Under Police Scrutiny After Deaths of 2 Ex-Husbands on Same Day

NEED TO KNOW
- A 54-year-old man died after being shot in his Florida home earlier this week
- Information provided by his teen daughter led authorities to Susan Avalon
- Authorities allege Avalon may be connected to the homicide of another one of her ex-husbands, who was killed the same day
A Florida woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her ex-husband — and is under investigation in the fatal shooting of another ex-husband on the same day.
Susan Avalon, 51, was arrested this week in connection with the death of a 54-year-old man, whose name has not been publicly announced.
Authorities responding to a Bradenton, Fla. residence on Wednesday, Dec. 17 found the man suffering from gunshot wounds, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
At a news conference on Thursday, Manatee County sheriff alleged the Bradenton man told police who arrived on the scene that his ex-wife, whom he divorced about 11 years ago, was “possibly” behind the shooting.
The man died after he was taken to a hospital.
On Wednesday evening, authorities arrested Avalon in Citrus County, about 125 miles from Manatee County.
According to the sheriff’s statements at the news conference, investigators learned that Avalon grabbed a Panera soup from a nearby store, without paying for it, and showed up at the victim’s door.
Matching information provided by the victim’s teen daughter, who described a vehicle and an individual outside the residence, authorities tracked down the man’s ex-wife, identified as Avalon.
At her residence in Citrus County, investigators observed her cleaning her vehicle with bleach, the Manatee County Sheriff said at Thursday’s press briefing.
Police claim that when they approached her and said they wanted to talk to her about her ex-husband, she responded: “Which one?”
This prompted authorities to check on Avalon’s second ex-husband in Tampa, Fla. where he was found fatally shot in his residence, the Manatee County Sheriff said.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office announced in an update on Thursday that there is “credible evidence” indicating Avalon is connected to the homicide in Tampa.
Investigators believe the Tampa man was killed before the suspect went to the Manatee County victim’s home.
