A groom-to-be is blaming his sister for his dream wedding date and venue falling through.
In a post on Reddit’s “Am I the Jerk” forum, the sister, 28, shared that she’s being accused of trying to “sabotage” the wedding because she froze her credit that was used by the groom, 25, without her permission to cover his $1,200 venue deposit, causing the payment to bounce.
“I told them flat out: if you use my card without permission, that’s theft,” the groom’s sister wrote.

Once in 2024, the woman allowed her younger brother to use her card to cover a payment because “his debit card was being weird” and he had the money to pay her back immediately. The man seemingly secretly saved his sister’s credit card information to use again in October 2025 to pay for his wedding venue deposit since he and his fiancée don’t have the funds yet to afford it themselves.
When the groom’s sister saw the hefty charge, she initially “thought it was fraud.” After she realized it was her brother’s name on the receipt, she called him to sort things out.
“He used my card because ‘they required a card right away’ and ‘he didn’t want to miss the date,’ ” the woman explained.
At first, she was understanding of the couple’s financial predicament and didn’t make a fuss because her brother promised to pay her back “once his next paycheck clears.” However, that was three weeks ago. Now, she’s sick of waiting for her money.
“I froze the card, canceled the transaction with the bank, and the venue called him saying the payment bounced,” the groom’s sister said. “Now he’s furious, saying I ‘sabotaged’ his wedding and made him look bad in front of his fiancée.”
The woman’s family is siding with her brother.
“My parents are pressuring me to just ‘let it slide’ because ‘he’s stressed and didn’t mean harm,’ ” she said, adding, “Everyone’s calling me dramatic and ‘vindictive over family.’ ”

Unlike the poster’s family members, Redditors said that the groom’s sister was valid for freezing her card.
“NTJ (Not The Jerk)! Any family who disagrees can let him use their credit card,” the top comment reads.
Because the groom saved his sister’s credit card information for an entire year, many individuals argued his action was “premeditated theft” and “not cool.” They also encouraged the groom’s sister to check her payment history to ensure he didn’t “help himself on other occasions.”
“Don’t think he realizes what a gift OP (original poster) has given them by getting the transaction canceled,” one person commented. “OP could have filed a police report and let the courts deal with him. He should consider himself lucky that he just has to scrounge around for a deposit and not a lawyer for the fraud and identity theft that he committed.”
