Authorities said that human remains found in Pennsylvania are being tested to confirm whether they belong to a man who disappeared earlier this year after fleeing from police.
According to a Monday, Dec. 29, joint release news release by the Berks County District Attorney’s Office and the Cumru Township Police Department, police received a call on Sunday, Dec. 28, from someone who noticed possible human remains in a wooded area near Lakewood Drive in Berks County’s Flying Hills community while walking their dog.
“The remains were discovered approximately 20 yards off of the golf cart path that leads to the 18th green between Doral Dr. and Lakewood Dr. in Flying Hills,” the statement read.
Authorities confirmed that the remains were human following an initial investigation, although the gender of the victim is not known. The scene was processed for potential evidence by the district attorney’s forensic sciences unit.
Both the Berks County District Attorney’s Office and the Cumru Township Police Department noted that this latest discovery appears to be unrelated to the human remains found in Cumru Township in April 2025.
“Cumru Police Detectives along with the District Attorney’s Detectives and the Berks County Coroners Office will be working in cooperation to further the investigation,” the news release further stated.
In a social media post on Monday, the U.S. Marshals Service also noted the discovery of the remains in Flying Hills, adding that the “area is consistent with Travelle Martin’s last known location when he fled from police.”
The Cumru Township Police Department stated in a Jan. 8, 2025, news release that officers were dispatched to a home in Flying Hills six days earlier, following a report of a physical domestic incident.
The department said at the time that upon arrival at the home, officers heard and witnessed Martin “assaulting a female, via the front window of the residence.”
As officers entered the home, Martin took the female’s cell phone and fled out the rear door of the home, police added.
Authorities searched the area using a K-9 and a drone, but they could not locate Martin, the department said.
Martin was later charged with robbery, domestic assault and other related charges, and an active warrant was out for his arrest as the search for him continued, police added.
In an email to PEOPLE on Tuesday, Dec. 30, an official with the Cumru Township Police Department said there have been no further updates about the case and the remains, and that the investigation is moving forward.
Those with information about the human remains are asked to call the Cumru Township Police Department at 610-777-9595, or the Berks County District Attorney Detectives Office at 610-478-7171.
