Plane Stolen at Flight School Crashes into Los Angeles-area Airport Hangar

A stolen Cessna plane crashed into an airport hangar in Los Angeles, though the plane reportedly never left the ground.
KABC, NBC4 and KTLA all reported the crash, which occurred on the morning of Thursday, Dec. 18 at Van Nuys Airport — a popular airport for general aviation in the Los Angeles area.
According to NBC4, the Cessna C172 — a four-seat, single-engine aircraft — was stolen from a flight school at the airport.
Video of the aftermath of the crash published by the outlet shows the nose of plane sticking through a hole in the hangar, which was caused by the crash.
KTLA reported that the crash occurred around 5 a.m. It is not immediately clear if anyone was injured as a result.
The plane never got airborne, authorities said, per KABC.

The outlets all reported that a suspect was detained following the crash, though the person was not immediately identified.
NBC4 reported that the suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft of aircraft.
Van Nuys Airport, which is located in the San Fernando Valley, is operated by Los Angeles World Airports, which also operates Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
