Rob and Michele Reiner Died ‘Minutes’ After Injuries, Death Certificates Reveal

Rob Reiner and his wife Michele‘s official death certificates confirm details about their killings.

Obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, Dec. 23, the documents confirm Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, died of “multiple sharp force injuries” inside their Los Angeles home on Sunday, Dec. 14, caused “with [a] knife, by another.” The time between the onset of injuries and death is listed as “minutes.”

The death certificates indicate Rob was found first, at about 3:45 p.m., and Michele, who is listed as “widowed,” was discovered at 3:46 p.m.

They have since been cremated, according to the death certificates. PEOPLE previously reported that their bodies were repatriated to the family on Dec. 19

Rob and Michele’s 32-year-old son Nick has been arrested and is facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents. Nick is being held without bail. He briefly appeared in court on Dec. 17 but has not yet entered a plea. According to multiple reports, Nick was being treated for schizophrenia prior to the killings.

Rob and Michele met while he was directing When Harry Met Sally and got married in 1989. The couple had three kids: Nick, Romy and Jake. Rob also adopted his daughter Tracy during his first marriage to Penny Marshall.

Information about a memorial service honoring Rob and Michele will be shared “at a later date,” a spokesperson for Romy and Jake said Dec. 22.

In a statement shared Dec. 17, Jake and Romy said, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” they added.

“We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
