Bobby Flay Reveals Thanksgiving Will Be Different Thanks to Brooke Williamson

  • Bobby Flay opened up about his Thanksgiving plans on the first episode of his new podcast, Bobby on the Beat
  • He told guest Ayesha Nurdjaja that girlfriend Brooke Williamson influenced this year’s turkey recipe
  • The couple went down a “rabbit hole” to come up with the creative menu during a long-distance texting session

Bobby Flay is trying something new this Thanksgiving.

The Food Network star gave a preview of his holiday meal while chatting with guest Ayesha Nurdjaja on the inaugural episode of his new podcast, Bobby on the Beat.

During the episode, Flay presented Nurdjaja — who joined Bobby’s Triple Threat as a titan this year — with a red curry roasted chicken dish from his Sundays with Sophie cookbook. He noted that it was inspired by a recipe from his friend and fellow chef Jet Tila.

Flay, 60, went on to share that he and girlfriend Brooke Williamson, 47, are planning to cook a Thanksgiving turkey with similar flavors.

“We’re doing, like, a red curry turkey for Thanksgiving,” he revealed, adding, “Which is not something I usually do.”

“We usually pick a theme, but like the wildest theme that we did was like Tuscany or something like that, which obviously is not American, but still like Italian flavors with turkey, et cetera,” he explained. “But Brooke loves Asian ingredients and stuff like that. So we went down this rabbit hole one night, like texting back and forth.”

This will be their first holiday season as an official couple. The pair, who appear together on both Bobby’s Triple Threat and the Food Network series BBQ Brawl, took their romance public in March.

“We kind of have like this semi long-distance relationship where she lives in L.A.,” Flay said of Williamson. “And so it went from like red curry turkey to like, she wants to do, like, a wild mushroom and chestnut crispy rice. And then, you know, like sweet potatoes with nuoc cham.”

“I was like, actually, it all sounds kind of delicious,” he added.

Flay recently confirmed that he and Williamson would be spending Turkey Day together during an Instagram Q&A about Beat Bobby Flay: Holiday Throwdown.

When a fan asked Flay what his “favorite holiday tradition” was, he replied, “Thanksgiving is my favorite day of the year. This year, I get to share it with @chefbrookew. I don’t have to do ALL of the cooking.”

The couple sparked engagement rumors in October when Flay posted an image of Williamson wearing a massive diamond ring.

However, a source close to the couple exclusively revealed to PEOPLE that the ring was a gift from Flay, but the two chefs were not engaged.

Speaking with PEOPLE days later at the New York City Wine & Food Festival, Williamson said that there was not “a huge story behind” the ring.

“[Bobby is] a very generous, wonderful, romantic man and it was a really thoughtful gift, and that’s what it is,” the Sun-Kissed Cooking author said.

Flay previously cited the two culinary stars’ many similarities when reflecting on why their relationship works.

“We are both in the restaurant business,” Flay told PEOPLE in June. “We have tons to talk about in terms of the things that we love to do besides just go and have dinner every once in a while. So it’s been really great.”

Flay continued, “And one of the things I really like about being in a relationship with Brooke is that she’s great to bounce things off of. Like we ask each other’s opinion about things that we’re doing food food-wise or restaurant-wise wise or business-wise, all the time. So it’s really nice to have kind of a best friend that you’re dating that can also be helpful answering the questions that you have.”
