Colorado tourist found dead in Tobago with ‘metal object protruding from back’

A US tourist from Colorado was found dead in Tobago with a metal object protruding from his back after leaving his friends to purchase marijuana, according to authorities.
Christopher Brown, 43, a builder from Silverthorne, was found unresponsive after 10:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday in the small fishing village of Castara.
Officers from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service responded to the scene, where Brown was pronounced dead.
Brown had had dinner and drinks with friends that evening and later left, telling them he was going to buy marijuana, according to a police report.
Investigators believe he was stabbed and discovered several wounds on Brown’s body, and a metal object protruding from his back, police wrote.
Cops have already apprehended a suspect in the shocking slaughter.
“I can confirm that a suspect is currently in custody,” Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro told the Associated Press on Thursday afternoon, without divulging further information on the individual who was arrested.

A motive for his killing — and the circumstances around it — are not immediately clear.
The TTPS did not immediately respond to a request for additional comment from The Post.
Tobago’s Division of Tourism condemned the stabbing, saying this was “the first such act of violence” in the tranquil fishing village.
It was not immediately clear whether Brown was visiting Tobago or was there for an extended time — or when he had arrived on the island.
Trinidad and Tobago has recorded over 330 homicides so far this year, according to police statistics. A state of emergency over the recent violence is currently in effect for the twin-island nation.
Authorities implemented the measure in July, accusing a criminal network in prisons across the country of plotting to kill key government officials and attack public institutions.
Relatives of Brown were unable to be reached for comment late Thursday.
