The real reason why controversial actress Karla Sofía Gascón didn’t attend co-star Selena Gomez’s wedding revealed

Karla Sofía Gascón revealed that professional obligations kept her from attending her “Emilia Perez” co-star Selena Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco.

“I’m working,” the actress told a reporter in Spanish at the Los40 Music Awards in Valencia, Spain.

Gascón noted that she doesn’t even see her family, adding that she would be ruined if she had to pay for the “Only Murders in the Building” star’s wedding.

Reps for Gomez, 33, weren’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.

Blacno and the “Wizards of Waverly Place” alum exchanged vows in Santa Barbara alongside their close family and friends in September.

Among the star-studded attendees were Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Gomez’s “Emilia Perez” co-star Zoe Saldaña was also in attendance, though Gascón, 53, was notably absent.

Earlier this year, the Disney alum and Gascón were at the forefront of feud rumors after the latter allegedly called Gomez a “rich rat” in an unearthed 2022 tweet.

According to the Latin Times, Gascón was commenting on Gomez reuniting with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, at the 2022 Annual Academy Museum Gala.

“She’s a rich rat who plays the poor bitch whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife,” Gascón wrote at the time, per the outlet.

At the time, Gascón also came under fire when additional old tweets — shared between 2016 to 2023 —about George Floyd, Muslims and Oscar diversity surfaced.

Gascón then issued an apology for her past comments.

However, she alleged the tweets about Gomez were fake.

The co-stars later had an awkward reunion at the 2025 Oscars in March, with Gascón approaching Gomez and Blanco ahead of the ceremony.

The duo appeared cordial and greeted each other with a kiss on the cheek during their brief interaction.
