What Did Sherrone Moore Allegedly Do? Everything We Know About the Ex Football Coach’s Arrest

New details continue to emerge regarding the circumstances surrounding ex-Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore’s firing and arrest.

On Dec. 10, the former University of Michigan Wolverines head coach was fired from the school after “credible evidence” found that Moore had allegedly engaged in an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member, per Athletic Director Warde Manuel.

Just hours later, the football coach was detained by police after officers responded to an “alleged assault.” The university’s president then released an official statement on Dec. 11 saying that the school had “no tolerance for this conduct.”

“This breach of trust by Coach Moore is painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved in this situation,” the statement read.

On Dec. 12, Moore was arraigned on charges of felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking and entering without permission. During the arraignment, assistant prosecuting attorney Kati Rezmierski alleged that Moore made several “intimidating” and “terrifying” statements while breaking into the woman’s home earlier in the week, following her breaking up with him.

Moore was fired after the university found evidence of an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member

On Dec. 10, Manuel announced that Moore had been fired “with cause.” Moore had been working for the university since 2018, taking on the head coach role in 2024.

Manuel said that a university investigation found “credible evidence” that Moore had allegedly engaged in an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member, who was not named.

“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” Manuel’s statement continued, adding that associate coach Biff Poggi would serve as interim head coach amid Moore’s exit.

He was arrested in connection with an alleged assault

Hours after news broke that Moore was fired, the former head football coach was detained by police on Dec. 10 after officers responded to an “alleged assault.”

The Saline Police Department said in a statement to ESPN that they had “assisted in locating and detaining” Moore, who was “turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation.”

The Pittsfield Township Police Department released a statement of their own, saying they responded to a location in Pittsfield Township, Mich., at 4:10 p.m. on Dec. 10 “for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault,” though they did not name Moore directly.

“This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community,” the statement continued.

A 911 dispatcher who appeared to be referencing Moore said a man had been “stalking” a caller “for months”

A 911 dispatcher, who appears to reference the alleged assault involving Moore, said a caller reported that an unnamed man had been “stalking her for months,” as revealed in the recording reviewed by PEOPLE.

In the audio, a 911 dispatcher said that a subject called claiming that a “male was at the location in the house attacking her” and that the caller alleged he had “been stalking her for months.”

While the former Michigan coach isn’t named in the recording, the dispatcher’s conversation took place at around 4:14 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, shortly before Moore was arrested. The dispatcher also mentions an address in the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Road, which is the location police identified as the site of the alleged incident involving Moore.

Moore faces several charges

In Pittsfield Township Police Department’s statement, they shared that the suspect was “lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor.”

The police department said that the investigation is “ongoing.” The former head football coach has not been officially charged, though his arraignment is set for Dec. 12.

Ahead of his arraignment, prosecutors announced on Dec. 12 that he has been charged with third-degree home invasion, stalking and entering without permission.

Prosecutors accused the former coach of “allegedly unlawfully entering the dwelling of a victim with whom Mr. Moore had a dating relationship,” per a press release, which adds that he allegedly engaged in a “willful course of conduct involving repeated or continuing harassment of the victim.”

During Moore’s arraignment hearing on Dec. 12, Rezmierski shared more details about the alleged timeline of events in the days leading up to the former football coach’s arrest. They claimed that the victim, who had been in a relationship with Moore for a number of years, broke up with him on the morning of Monday, Dec. 8.

The prosecutor claimed that Moore allegedly sent numerous texts and made several phone calls to the victim that she “did not want” before she reported their relationship to Michigan officials and cooperated in “some form of investigation there.”

Rezmierski further alleged that Moore then drove to the victim’s apartment, barged in and grabbed butter knives before making several “intimidating” and “terrifying” statements. He then allegedly threatened to self-harm and told her that his “blood is on your hands,” the prosecutor claimed.

The judge ultimately granted the former coach a $25,000 cash surety bond and ordered him to not contact the victim. She also said he could only be released with a GPS tether.
