Bergeron, who hosted DWTS from 2005 to 2019, was asked about the elimination that “shocked” him the most and he named Bones. “Bobby Bones was the first time I kind of — it was like ouch,” he said.
Bones, in his podcast episode, said that he was “so surprised” at Bergeron’s reaction because “they didn’t even ask him about me.”
“Now had they said the question of, ‘Who won that is surprising?’ I’m all here. I’m the most surprising ever. I know that. I have total awareness of my entire situation. But it wasn’t. He was like, ‘Well, I won’t answer that question, but I will tell you what is the most surprising win,’ ” Bones said, adding that Bergeron’s expression when he said “ouch” was also insulting.
“It hurt my feelings so much,” he said. “I have a job where I give opinions all the time. Whenever I create controversy, which I do at times, sometimes manufactured, sometimes not, I’m good because I’ve signed up for this. When he did that, it hurt my feelings, because that was somebody [who] was so helpful to me during the show, because he knew I was struggling.”

“I still love Tom, but that hurt my feelings so bad,” Bones added.
The season 27 winner responded to Bergeron’s comments in a Wednesday, Nov. 12 TikTok video, which he has since admitted was created when he was on pain pills following a foot surgery. In the clip, he said that he returned his Mirror Ball trophy to the network.
Speaking about parting with the trophy in the previous episode of his podcast, Bones said Bergeron comments were “reflective of me in a negative way, and I was like, my feelings are hurt, so I mailed the Mirror Ball back.”
“It’s a little dramatic. I was on pain pills. And I thought, if I’m gonna get on and say this, I should at least show it. Not just be a video. I’ll just send the trophy back. And so I sent the trophy back as a gesture, like, ‘You guys don’t want me to be there, here’s the trophy.’ But I loved my time on the show. I love everybody associated with the show,” he added.
