Who Is Nick Reiner’s Lawyer Alan Jackson? All About the Hollywood Attorney

Alan Jackson is a prolific attorney who will represent Nick Reiner as he faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the slayings of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.

Jackson confirmed that Nick will be his client during a Dec. 16 press meeting outside the Los Angeles Superior Court. The lawyer further shared that Nick would not be appearing in court that day because he hadn’t been medically cleared.

As PEOPLE previously reported, Nick was arrested in relation to Rob and Michele’s deaths after they were found dead on Dec. 14. The Los Angeles Fire Department previously said that they were called to provide medical aid to the Reiner home around 3:30 p.m. that day.

While Nick is Jackson’s most recent client, he has worked with a myriad of high-profile defendants over the years. He got his start at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted the highly publicized trial of Phil Spector.

He later transitioned to private practice and serves as a partner at Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP. Over the years, he has represented Karen Read, Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein, among others.

Jackson has been a principal partner at Werksman Jackson & Quinn LLP since 2015, per his LinkedIn. He specializes in criminal defense and specifically works on cases related to white collar crimes and complex litigation.

In addition to serving as a partner and prominent attorney, Jackson has also shared his opinions on cases as both a media legal analyst and an adjunct professor of law at Pepperdine and Loyola Law Schools.

He previously worked for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and prosecuted Phil Spector

Before Jackson worked as a criminal defense attorney, he got his start at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He began his legal journey there after serving in the United States Air Force and getting his law degree at Pepperdine University in 1994.

At the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Jackson worked as an Assistant Head Deputy for the Major Crimes Division and helped prosecute several high-profile criminal cases — including the 2007 and 2009 murder trials against Spector.

Jackson was the lead prosecutor and presented arguments accusing Spector of murdering actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. In 2007, the case resulted in a mistrial, but in 2009, a jury found Spector guilty of second-degree murder.

“That’s when I realized, I’m good at this,” Jackson told Vanity Fair in July 2025. “Nobody intimidates these guys. But I was able to not just hold my own, I was able to — I don’t want to use the word defeat — but you can certainly win an argument.”

Jackson also credits his time at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for making him a well-rounded attorney and solid criminal defense lawyer.

“Because of my experience as a former Los Angeles District Attorney, I understand criminal cases from every angle,” he said in his firm’s bio.

Jackson left the District Attorney’s Office after he ran for District Attorney in 2012 and lost to Jackie Lacey.

Since working as a criminal defense attorney in private practice, Jackson has defended several high-profile clients. As his bio reads, “His client list reads like a who’s who of Hollywood celebrities, NBA stars, billionaire CEOs, and foreign dignitaries—all turning to him for ‘must-win’ cases.”

Most recently, Jackson represented Massachusetts-based Karen Read, who was accused of killing her police officer boyfriend. In June 2025, Read was found not guilty of the murder after two highly publicized trials.

Jackson also defended Kevin Spacey in a sexual assault criminal case that was initially brought forward in November 2017. The case was dismissed two years later when the accuser dropped their civil complaint.

In 2022, Jackson and his partner, Mark Werksman, represented Harvey Weinstein in his Los Angeles criminal trial, in which he was accused of rape. Weinstein was ultimately convicted of rape and sexual assault charges and was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

In addition to Read, Spacey and Weinstein, Jackson has also represented a myriad of prominent clients — including a foreign royal family, hotel and commercial real estate owners, an NBA player and the son of a Middle Eastern Sheikh.

Jackson returned to the spotlight when he confirmed that he’d be representing Nick in the Reiner murder case. On Dec. 16, Jackson told reporters outside the Los Angeles Superior Court that Nick was his client.

He addressed the press while explaining that Nick would not be appearing in court that day because he had not been medically cleared.

During a press conference held on Dec. 16, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman revealed that Nick is being charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special allegation that he used a knife.

Nick was arrested hours after Rob and Michele were found dead in their Brentwood, Calif., home on Dec. 14. Police apprehended him near the University of Southern California.

Since the arrest, Nick has been held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility without bail, and he will be arraigned when he is deemed medically clear. Hochman further shared that Nick could face the death penalty if he’s convicted of his parents’ murders.

Jackson previously said he was inspired to become a lawyer by Rob Reiner’s film A Few Good Men

In a strange twist of events, Jackson previously credited Rob for creating the movie that inspired him as an attorney. In a July 2025 interview with Vanity Fair, Jackson said that he often found inspiration from on-screen lawyers.

He specifically pointed out Reiner’s 1992 film A Few Good Men and Tom Cruise‘s character of Lieutenant Kaffee as prime inspiration for his defense of Read.

“I’ve seen it so many times and it gives me such a boost,” he told the publication.
